Lessons & Instruction Music With MJ is open to any student regardless of age, ability or experience. Throughout the course of Music With MJ, each student will not only learn how to play music and their instrument, but what music is, how the instrument works, tuning the instrument, working with rhythms and beats, becoming adept in and understand scales and chords, playing solo and with an accompanist, reading and writing music and much more. Lessons are available for bass, banjo, drums and guitar (acoustic and electric). Students studying bass, guitar and banjo will provide their own instruments. Those working with the electric guitar or bass may bring their own amplifier, or make arrangements with the instructor to use one of his. If an electric guitar or bass student chooses to use the instructors amplifier, it is still required that he/she have one of their own for practice and homework. Drum students will use the instructors drum kit, but must provide their own drumsticks and have their own drums for homework and practice. Any student, drum or otherwise, wishing to venture into the area of hand percussion or keyboard should speak with MJ regarding instruments and instruction. Lessons are by appointment or a monthly schedule. Students should arrive 5-10 minutes prior to the start of the lesson. All lessons are 45 minutes.
Cost, Payments & Fees Lessons cancelled by the instructor are not subject to fee. Lessons cancelled by students with more than 24 hours notice or due to extreme and/or extenuating circumstances will not be assessed a fee. Any cancellation made by the student with less than 24 hours notice will be subject to a fee of 50% of the cost of a regular lesson ($15.00). All "no show" lessons will be charged full, regular lesson rates ($30). Missed lessons can be made up at the discretion and convenience of the instructor. Late arrivals (after scheduled lesson time) will be charged for the entire session and time missed will not be added to the duration of the lesson. Students who are studying the bass or electric guitar and use the instructors amplifier will be charged a one time only fee of $10 due at the first lesson.
Payment is due at the end of each lesson.
Payment for students enrolled in the monthly lesson plan is due in full on
the first of each month. Payments may be made by cash, check or money order.
