MJ Puskas, Music With MJ co-owner
and primary teacher, professional musician, Kindermusik educator and music
instructor, has spent the past decade working in the field of mental health
at Allied
Services ICF/MR. MJ's position as QMRP (Qualified Mental Retardation
Professional); certified in CPR and first aid; combined with his music and
teaching background, allow him to bring music into the lives of individuals
with Special Needs, be it developmental, physical or emotional, in a way
few others can.
Although
MJ is NOT a Music Therapist, he does believe
in the therapeutic qualities of music, and is committed to bringing music
into the lives of everyone regardless of development or functionality.
MJ is able to combine his knowledge and experience
as a QMRP actively working in the field of mental health with his musical
expertise to create and customize music programs for individuals/families
living with Special Needs. His experience with Special Needs persons includes,
but is not limited to, Downs Syndrome, Autism, Cerebral Palsy (CP), Multiple
Sclerosis (MS), Mood Disorders, Chemical Imbalances, Deaf, Non-Verbal, Immobile
and Traumatic Brain Injured (TBI) persons.
As a courtesy to our Special Needs students
and their families, Music With MJ is now going to these students to
make their music experience as comfortable, convenient and productive as
possible. MJ will come to your home, or location
of your choosing, to bring music into the lives of these students and their
families.
Prior to setting up a curriculum for our
Special Needs students, MJ will conduct an
interview, via telephone, with the care giver and/or student. After this
interview, an appointment will be scheduled for
MJ to visit the student and/or family for a
30-45 minute evaluation. After this initial meeting,
MJ will then customize a music program for
each student/family and scheduling of these classes will
occur.
The cost for each 45 minute Special Needs
class is $30. All multiple child, family and birthday discounts available
to students enrolled in other programming through Music With MJ will
be applied to the cost of Special Needs classes in accordance with the policies
set forth by Music With MJ.
Additionally, Music With MJ welcomes
Special Needs students into our Kindermusik
classes when age and/or developmental eligibility requirements are
met. Kindermusik is an early childhood music
and movement developmental program for children and their families ages birth
to 7 years. Please contact Music With MJ for
more information on our Special Needs programs.
